How to plan a Caribbean fun vacation
April 10th, 2010Cockle Shell Beach in St. Kitts
April 6th, 2010It was almost one year ago that I last visited St Kitts! Time sure flies when you are having fun traveling around the world. I visited an area on the island’s southeast peninsula, a place called Cockleshell Bay. This is a photo I took from the beach looking at the Island of Nevis.
Cockle Shell Beach is located on the southeastern point of St. Kitts.
I never realized there was so much undeveloped land in this area until I came across Christophe Harbour. Christophe Harbour is a 2500 acre future resort on the island’s southeastern peninsula that will include a Mandarin Oriental Hotel, some luxury real estate, a yacht harbour, a golf course and of course, shopping!

Most of the beaches in St. Kitts are often quiet beaches, but you can find a difference at Cockleshell Bay.

Because the beaches of St. Kitts are known for their natural beauty, it helps make them popular vacation spots. Each beach has its own personality, and it’s easy for many tourists & vacationers to enjoy all that Cockleshell Bay has to offer.

Christophe Harbour in St Kitts
March 15th, 2010In the southeast peninsula of St. Kitts another community is emerging! They have finally broken ground for Phase I of the marina & anticipate the completion of the infrastructure work at Sandy Bank Bay.
Along the water’s edge, new homesites have been started, and two villas are well on their way to completion.
The clearing of the construction site for Christophe Harbour has started at Cockle Shell Bay on the Southeast Peninsula of St. Kitts. This project is approx 2500 acres with access to 6 beaches including Cockle Shell Beach, where the work began.
Here are some photos I took in May of 2009 when I visited this area.
Turtle Beach, future home sites at Christophe Harbour project Beach
The entire project has been projected to take 10 to 15 years to be complete. Old buildings had to be torn down so the new construction could begin. The “new” will include a mega yacht harbour, world class restaurants, shops, boutiques, luxury villas, two five star hotels and a championship golf course. Much of the work on the project has not been visible to the public.
Several consultants working behind the scenes to create this vision for St. Kitts. Many architects, engineers and planners have put in thousands of hours. The goal is to develop this southeastern property into successful high-end community for St. Kitts.

Things to know about Turtle Beach:
- Great snorkeling 20 feet off the beach.
- Free beach chairs are available for all-day lounging,
- A full-service bar and restaurant.
- Enjoy watching the waves roll in from the turquoise ocean.
- If the main bar gets too busy, slip on over to the other bar located directly on the beach.
- A PADI dive centre with a custom dive boat is available and deep-sea fishing excursions are also an option.
- Water taxis to Nevis that only take 15 minutes to get across the channel (or you can arrange for private charters to taxi your entire group).
- A gift shop is located beside the restaurant and offers a variety of Turtle Beach gift wear.
- One of the highlights of your visit to Turtle Beach is to see the many monkeys; even though they live in the wild, they are always at Turtle Beach. Bring your camera and watch the daily feedings. You can feed actually the monkeys by hand while sipping a cool beverage at the local Bar and Grill.
- Every Sunday the restaurant offers a buffet lunch and a steel band, but feel free to bring your cooler and picnic lunch.
- Light summer clothing may be worn all year. Dress is informal, even at elegant hotels and plantation inns, though you may want to dress up a bit for a nice dinner.
- Nudity is not permitted at any beach.
- Swim wear or scant clothing should never be worn in towns or villages.

Anguilla, St. Kitts and the Killer Bees in Nevis
January 19th, 2010I have lots of photos from my trip to St. Kitts & Nevis last May.
I was pretty impressed with the clock tower in the square in Basseterre on St. Kitts Island. I found a really cool store in downtown Basseterre and just had to get my picture at the Pirana Joe Sport Shop. Check it out here http://www.basseterreblog.com/
I spent some time touring Brimstone Hill Fortress in St. Kitts. Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, is the largest fortress ever built in the Eastern Caribbean.
I took a water taxi to the Island of Nevis & had a blast in Charlestown. I spent some time at a bar/restaurant called Eddy’s. Eddy’s is open most nights for dinner and drinks, but Wednesday nights is where Eddy’s really shines in Charlestown. More about Charlestown here: http://www.charlestownblog.com/
At the Sunshine’s Beach Bar at Pinney’s Beach in Nevis, I had a couple of Killer Bees! I had heard that it’s not a Nevis vacation without a “killer bee” or two! A killer bee consists of Rum (of course), Passion Fruit Juice, Club Soda, Honey & freshed squeezed line juice. Some like a little bitters, some like a little nutmeg. I had to try one of each – my vote is with the Nutmeg, freshly grated. After 2 Killer Bees, I know why this drink has that name.
I’ve always loved gardening and flowers so I visited the Nevis Botanical Gardens. It was a gorgeous day & I took lot of pictures. You can view some them by clicking here.
My trip in May started and ended with my visit to Anguilla. I had a great time there, met many great people, including Bankie Banx! Bankie is Anguilla’s reggae star and local real estate mogul. I met him at the Dune Preserve in Rendezvous Bay.
